This donation is dated to the 41st Regnal year of Koparakesari Padmar who captured Madurai and Eelam. The Madyastha of Nandivarmamangalam, a brahmadeya situated in the south bankf of river Kaveri, Nalayira Munnurruvan alias Chandrasekaan Aramaindhan donated three of his slaves Parameswaya, the deity of the stone temple of Vayalur. These slaves were: Uran Solai, her daughter Velan Piratti and her daughter, Aramaindan Kandi. their duties were to wave whisks for the deity and to sing sacred hymns. The term "koozhal" occurs at the end of the last line. but some words after it are missing. This probably means the slaves were donated as "Koozhal". This seems crucial, as it is referred to in CN Subbu's article on Pallandu by Periyazhvar, where he makes a distinction between Koozaatpattu vantha atiyar and Vaazhaat pattu vantha atiyar. Koozaal here could mean a slave who is under slavery just for subsistence. Also this is the earlies mention of slavery in Tamil inscriptions.

The importance of regional studies in providing a comprehensive framework for the writing of Indian History has been recognized for a long time. The Indian subcontinent displays considerable diversity in geography, language, culture and economic conditions. It is not surprising that a general theory which can explain all the regional variations in the social and economic development of India has proved elusive. However, detailed regional studies that have been undertaken recently are useful in throwing light into a number of problems that a student of history faces while analyzing the socio-economic structure of a particular period or the character of a social movement. Such studies have also demonstrated the complexities involved in applying an accepted historical concept or category in a specific regional context.
