Browsing Historical Atlas of South India
Using historical atlas as a tool for exploration of the past using the records of information collected through scientific methods of field archaeology, but also as users of the tool for exploring the past should be caution about the temporal and spatial determinism. Manufacturing of bias because of the false deterministic interpretation of the provided information should be checked responsibly. Facilitation of such preferential bias in any scientific work that involves archaeology, history and historiography should be regulated with proper checks and balances. Unfettered misinformation have already created havoc in social media based on region or particular ethnicity, which has become problematic for both the public and academia.
The temporal accuracy in the atlas does not correspond to actual timestamp. Interpreting any of such assumptions should be regulated. Necessary mechanisms to inform it visually as well as textually is vital. All the information collected are mapped based on meaningful time intervals. We know very well that any emerging practice and idea will take its time from generation to maturity to normalization. Keeping these reasons as primary concern, the platform has been planned to bring such features, controls and checks - which shall be implemented in the future if not immediately.
