Music Instrument Making πͺ
Practice of creating and music, and the instrument involves trust based collaboration between the music producer, the instrument, and the instrument maker. Interaction between all three decides the quality of the music/sound produced from the instrument. Here the instrument acts as the common bridging/connecting point between two interdependent practices. The resource that we have documented illustrates the process of Thavil production from material selection to shaping it with workshop tools and machines under watchful dexter observation of the instrument maker.
After the production, making of the sound and music by tuning the percussion instrument through constant and fine adjustment of tension, stretching along with material reduction when necessary by taking back to the workshop to carefully operate the material to bring the resonation as expected by the musician. The documented evidence could illustrate this inseperable continuum of realtionship between the tools, materials, the instrument, sound production and both of the practitioners skill, experience.
